About this event
Youth are less likely to use addictive substances if their parents talk early and often about the risks, establish clear rules and consequences, and regularly monitor their activities. Active involvement and support of caring adults are both critical in the prevention of youth substance abuse. Tips for how to start the conversation, integrate positive communication, what to look for, and how talk to youth is provided in this classroom.
Youth of parents who talk to their kids about the dangers of substances early and often are 50% less likely to use drugs than those who do not receive these critical messages at home. Delaying the onset of legal substance use until the age of 21 allows the brain time to mature and the ability to make responsible decisions. Delaying use also greatly reduces the likelihood of substance use disorders later in life.
Classroom is limited to a maximum of 50 participants. Those who complete every assignment beginning Monday, October 16th through midnight on Sunday, October 22nd will receive a $50 gift card incentive. All assignments MUST be completed by this deadline of midnight on October 22nd to be eligible to receive the gift card.
Due to class size limitations, please only register if you are able to fully participate. Communities that Care (CTC) would like to thank Provident Health Foundation and the Drug Free Communities (DFC) Support grant for making the incentives possible.
